35mmc is a blog about photography and cameras. It is edited and published by me, Hamish Gill, featuring one or two posts of my own each week. In addition to my thoughts, I also regularly publish content submitted by the online community of photographers 35mmc resides within.

The focus for the website was historically 35mm film cameras, mostly compact and rangefinderA rangefinder is a focus mechanism that allows the user to calculate the distance of a subject through the convergence of two images. Cameras that use this mechanism are usually referred to as ‘rangefinders’. Rangefinder cameras were very popular in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Single Lens Reflex (SLRs) and compact cameras largely replaced them in the 70s, 80s and 90s. What is not always appreciated is that rangefinders offer several tangible benefits over SLRs, not least in image quality. Indeed, many photographers would rate the Leica M Digital Rangefinder as one of the best cameras available today.      More models, though as time passes, these early themes are much less exclusively what 35mmc is about. Digital photography has also become a small part of the fabric of the website, but where digital cameras are featured the focus is on gear that’s right for the task at hand, and not what’s the biggest, best, fastest or latest.
