My Thoughts on this Camera

This is definitely a camera that you can keep in your pocket. It is therefore a camera you can take anywhere…..

I enjoyed using this camera and the resulting images. have been great. With pleasing colours and reasonable quality, what’s not to like? When I acquired this camera, in a job-lot of old cameras, it had some images still stored and it demonstrated that the camera had indeed been used for travel  – out and about.

Here are some pros and cons:

Pros:

  1. Long Zoom Range: The TZ3 featured a 10x optical zoom lens, providing a versatile focal range suitable for various shooting situations, from wide-angle landscapes to distant subjects.
  2. Image Stabilization: Optical image stabilization helped reduce the effects of camera shake, especially at longer zoom lengths and in low-light conditions, resulting in sharper images.
  3. Manual control: aperture and shutter speed.
  4. Compact Design: Despite its impressive zoom capability, the TZ3 maintained a relatively compact and lightweight design, making it convenient for travel and everyday photography.
  5. Ease of Use: The camera offered user-friendly controls and menus, making it accessible to beginners while still providing enough manual control options for more experienced photographers.
  6. Battery Life: The included rechargeable lithium-ion battery provided decent battery life, allowing for extended shooting sessions without frequent recharging. The lithium iron battery allowed the camera to be a smaller size than those using traditional batteries.
  7. CCD sensor: The CCD sensor can produce lovely colours.

Cons:

  1. Image Quality: While the TZ3’s 7.2-megapixel resolution was sufficient for most casual photography needs, image quality tended to suffer at higher ISO settings and in low-light conditions, with noticeable noise and reduced detail.
  2. LCD Quality: The 3.0-inch LCD screen, while adequate for framing shots and navigating menus, had relatively low resolution compared to modern displays, which could impact image preview and review especially in bright conditions.
  3. Limited Manual Controls: Despite offering some manual shooting modes, the TZ3 lacked advanced features found in higher-end cameras, limiting creative control for more experienced photographers.
  4. Video Quality: While the TZ3 could record video at VGA resolution (640 x 480) at 30 frames per second, the video quality was generally average compared to dedicated camcorders or newer digital cameras with HD recording capabilities.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 is a well-rounded compact camera that offers a good balance of features, performance, and portability for its time. If you can find a cheap one you can have great fun  – it’s not much bigger than an iPhone with a good zoom, manual control, and more….
